Vic: Wife plunged into nightmare by murdering husband
MELBOURNE, Dec 19 AAP - The wife of confessed double killer Matthew Wales was thrustinto a nightmare when she learnt her husband had murdered his millionaire mother and stepfather,the Supreme Court heard today.
Phil Dunn, QC, said his client Maritza Wales, 39, had been shocked and traumatised,vomiting after Matthew told her about the killings at their suburban Glen Iris home.
"Your Honour, that's a woman thrust into a nightmare beyond ordinary comprehension,"
he told the court.
And later: "That's the woman when confronted with a nightmare situation ... and theman who loved her to bits says `I want some time' (before telling police). She went alongwith it."
Mrs Wales has pleaded guilty to attempting to pervert the course of justice by makinga false statement to cover up her husband's crimes.
Mr Dunn said Mrs Wales begged Wales - who has pleaded guilty to the murders - to goto the police.
He said he just wanted a bit of time with her and their two-year-old son Domenik.
The pre-sentence hearing for the couple finished in Melbourne today.
Justice John Coldrey allowed Mrs Wales' bail to continue and said he would sentencethe pair in February.
